East Rutherford, NJ — The rain held up at The Meadowlands on Friday night (May 17) for the weekly GSY Series event, carded as the first race on the program.

As the gate sprung open, several horses left in this compact field and there were two different leaders at the quarter and half mile stanza. Throughout the mile, there were dueling horses on the front and this set up well for the closers.

After Tony Beltrami and Serious Major gave way to another long shot, Grave Dancer (Joe Pennacchio) before the half, he was quickly challenged by the pocket-popping I’m Sid The Kid (Mark Silva). As they rambled past the half in a demanding 55.4, Matt Zuccarello, driving Jackamino for the second straight week, made a bold three-wide move to the lead as the field turned for home. With several horses stacked up to the inside, including the heavy 1-9 favorite Mr Carrotts (Roy Marohn), this allowed the outer tier to continue to move forward and in mid-stretch. Just N Berlander (Joe Lee) was able to collar Jackamino en route to a 1-1/4 length victory in 1:52.2.

Jackamino held second and Ascot Encounter A (Hannah Miller) came from way back to secure the show dough.

Just N Berlander is an 8-year-old Stonebridge Regal gelding owned by The Red Man Stable, Never Too Late Racing LLC and Linda Walters, and trained by Eric Abbatiello.
