A Harrisburg bargain behind victory in the Finnish Trotting Derby

In 2015 Finnish horseman Saku Mikkola bought the broodmare Captivation in foal to Muscle Mass in Harrisburg for $3,500. This deal has turned out to be a huge success.

Back in Finland Captivation foaled a filly in 2016, who was named Mascate Match.

Mascate Match is the leading trotter in her crop and Saturday afternoon (Sept. 5) she won the Finnish Trotting Derby with 70-year-old Pekka Korpi in the bike.

Mascate Match has now raced 28 times and has 24 wins and earnings of 618,162 Euros.

Mascate Match is owned by a club of hockey fans with around 1,000 members and at the end of the year 50 percent of Mascate Match’s net winnings will be donated to a charity which supports children and young people with cancer and their relatives.

For Pekka Korpi, this was his fifth win in the Derby.

Another 70-year-old horseman, Denmark’s Steen Juul, posted his ninth victory in the Danish Trotting Derby last Sunday, driving the elegant trotter Extreme (sired by Chocolatier).
