Alesha Binkley takes GLADA leg at the Meadows; Palone wins five

Washington, PA – Alesha “The Hoosier Hotshot” Binkley and Luminosity roared from the pocket and brushed through the lane to capture Friday’s (Oct. 9) $8,100 leg of the Great Lakes Amateur Driving Association (GLADA) series at The Meadows.

Stephen “You’re Never Too” Oldford and A Royal Line threw down a swift 1:26.3 three quarters but couldn’t shake Binkley, who blew by in the lane to score in 1:56.2. John Sikaris (Fomor) rallied for second, 1-1/4 lengths back, while Oldford saved show. Tom “Mayhem” Svrcek (Criteria) completed the superfecta.

In Friday’s co-feature, a $12,000 Conditioned Pace, K Ryan Bluechip was three wide through a :26.2 opening panel but remained strong late to prevail in 1:50.4 for Dave Palone, trainer Mike Palone and owners J.R. Ryan, Stephen Ronay, Lone Wolf Stable and Collin Ryan. The 8-year-old Art Major-Fool That I Am gelding lifted his career earnings to $577,407.

Palone collected five wins and Burke four on the 13-race program. Aaron Merriman also enjoyed a big day with three victories.

Live racing at The Meadows resumes Monday (Oct. 12) when the program offers a $59,639.06 carryover in the final-race Super Hi-5. Also featured are all eight $25,000 Pennsylvania Fairs Championships. The first two finals are non-wagering events that begin at 12:15 p.m., while the pari-mutuel portion of the card kicks off at 12:45 p.m.
