Chester, Pa – Alexa’s Power parlayed a pocket trip into a new career mark of 1:50 while winning the $14,400 distaff pacing feature Wednesday (July 29) afternoon at Harrah’s Philadelphia.

The impeccably-bred five-year-old mare (Somebeachsomewhere out of Michelle’s Power, a millionaire and a full sister to Jug winner Michael’s Power) was hustled away from the rail by driver Tim Tetrick, forcing her main rival, Eclipse Me N, to have to go :26.1 before getting the lead. Alexa’s Power waited patiently behind midfractions of :55 and 1:22.1, then slid out at the top of the stretch and paced home strongly to win by ¾ of a length over Bye Bye Felicia, who had sat third on the rail and rallied up the inside, with Eclipse Me N settling for the show dough.

The $11,200 distaff co-feature saw the American Ideal mare Its Mesmerize N close from second-over to take a new mark of 1:52, as the mare was the only horse on the entire card to win off of cover. Andrew McCarthy drove the Darran Cassar trainee, who added this first U.S. win to two seconds on these shores, for the Windemere Stable LLC.

The track’s top two drivers in terms of wins, George Napolitano Jr. and Tim Tetrick, waged their own private war during the card, with Napolitano winning five races and Tetrick three to put them joint-first atop the drivers column with 46 victories (after only 22 cards of racing). Four of Napolitano’s winners came for trainer Gilbert Garcia-Owen, which allowed him to close in on leading trainer Ron Burke, with Burke still having the edge 20-17.
