American JJ wins Vernon feature

Vernon, NY — American JJ (Michael Miller) won the $6,000 featured trot at Vernon Downs on Friday (Oct. 25).

Aces And Eights (Dan Daley) went to the front and led to a first quarter of :26.3 and to the half in :55.4. Jenny Lake (Howard Okusko Jr.) went first-over and put heavy pressure on Aces And Eights, who led to the three-quarters in 1:25.

American JJ ($8.30), who is trained by Michael Miller for owners Lewis and Terry Miller, was fourth at the three-quarter mark. He then went three wide and blew right on by to win in 1:55.3. Winding Hill (Jimmy Whittemore) came charging late to finish second. Multitaskr Hanover (Jennifer Lappe) was third.

American JJ is a 6-year-old gelding by Jailhouse Jesse. It was his sixth win this season and he now has 17 career victories.

Art Angel Baby (Claude Huckabone III) captured the $6,000 featured fillies and mares pace.

Beyonces Rockn (Jennifer Lappe) controlled all the early fractions (:27.3, :57, 1:25.3). Unusual Clarity (Howard Parker) went first-over and took the lead in the stretch.

Art Angel Baby ($6.00), who is owned by Chad Lennon and trained by Huckabone III, was last at the half-mile marker. She was fifth at three-quarters. She would battle Unusual Clarity all the way down the stretch. The mare got by just before hitting the mile in 1:53.4. Unusual Clarity had to settle for second money. Classic Can Dream (John MacDonald) finished third.

Art Angel Baby is a 6-year-old mare by Sagebrush. It was her seventh win in 2019 and she now has 24 career victories.
