American JJ wins Vernon feature

Vernon, NY — American JJ (Michael Miller) charged late to capture the $6,000 featured trot at Vernon Downs on Friday (July 19).

Spoiler Alert (Adam Cappizano) took control as they reached the first quarter in :27.3.  Someway Same Hall (Howard Parker) then gained the lead before hitting the half in :56.3.  He continued to lead at three-quarters in 1:25.4.  Spoiler Alert regained the lead in the stretch.

American JJ ($16.20), who is owned by Lewis and Terry Miller and trained by Michael Miller, was seventh at the half.  He went to fifth after three-quarters.  He flew down the stretch to blow right by and win in 1:55.4.  Tournament (Claude Huckabone III) finished second with Spoiler Alert settling for third.

American JJ is a 6-year-old gelding by Jailhouse, itt was his fourth win this season and he now has 15 career victories.

Howard Parker drove four winners on the night with John MacDonald taking three horses to the winner’s circle.  Parker won with Squee Hanover ($3.20), Irish Kate ($15.00), Fox Valley Photog ($14.80), and Painite ($18.00).  MacDonald got his wins with Well Spoken Lady ($2.20), Northern Express ($5.70), and Nomad ($6.90).

Vernon Downs returns to live racing with a 10 race card on Saturday (July 20) starting an hour later than usual at 7:10 p.m.
