American Nitro, Apple Valley Art win DSBF splits

Harrington, DE — American Nitro ($2.60, Victor Kirby) and Apple Valley Art ($2.10, Tim Tetrick) scored decisive wins in the second $20,000 leg of Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund stakes action for 3-year-old colt pacers Monday (June 29) at Harrington Raceway.

American Nitro, owned by Henry Faragalli III, Nanticoke Racing, Arthur Feeney and Daniel Doane, brushed to the front near the three-quarters and opened up on the field for a 1:54.1, 5-1/4 length score in the first division for trainer Les Givens. The Badlands Nitro-Jet America gelding recorded his sixth career win. Bebop On The Block, who set the pace, was second with Aidan third.

The second division saw a front end score for Jo Ann Looney-King’s Apple Valley Art, who controlled the tempo en route to an easy 1:55.4 score for trainer Jim King Jr. The Artzina-Shake Away gelding never had an anxious moment and completed a sweep of his eliminations. Leonard’s Legacy was second with Elite Retreat third.

George Leager’s Slick Tony ($7.20, Russell Foster) won the overnight feature, the $11,000 Open Pace, in 1:52.3. Trained by his owner, the 5-year-old No Spin Zone stallion led most of the way and recorded his 37th career win over Luis Alberto N and Wiggle It Jiggleit.

Kirby, Tetrick and Foster each had three wins apiece.
