Arabella’s Cadet equals Harrah’s Philadelphia record

Chester, PA — Arabella’s Cadet equaled the Harrah’s Philadelphia track record for older trotting mares with a 1:52 win over Scirocco Rob in the $14,400 trotting feature on Thursday afternoon (Sept. 10).

Scirocco Rob set the early fractions of :27 and :56, with Arabella’s Cadet launching uncovered for the sixth straight time. Driver Joe Bongiorno got a :26.4 backstretch burst out of the Deweycheatumnhowe mare that got her past the pacesetter to the 1:23.2 three-quarters. Though Scirocco Rob rallied back in the lane, Arabella’s Cadet withstood her rival by a neck.

Arabella’s Cadet, trained by Joe Bongiorno’s sister, Jenn, for the partnership of Glenn Goller and Abraham Basen, has now won five times this year and 17 times in 50 lifetime starts. She now has a bankroll of $180,248 in addition to a new mark and a track record, which she shares with Hannelore Hanover.

The Bongiornos also won with the veteran Muscle Mass gelding Rubber Duck, now with $609,074 in lifetime earnings, in an $11,600 trot. Rubber Duck went to the lead in front of the stands and, despite making his first start in six months, motored home in :56 to complete a 1:53.2 tally for owners Blair and Emma Corbeil.

In the $13,600 co-featured trot, Spee Club controlled the throttle from the rail and defeated Grapple Hanover by a nose in 1:55.4. Corey Callahan drove the son of Cantab Hall for owner-trainer Erin Neilson.

The meet’s leading driver, George Napolitano Jr., won four times on the Thursday card.
