Big numbers on Crown opening night

Anderson, IN — With crowd capacity held to under 600 in the grandstand due to state restrictions associated with COVID-19 regulations, Harrah’s Hoosier Park and the Hambletonian Society ensured the Friday (Oct. 30) Breeders Crown program could be viewed by as many as possible. In addition to live streaming of the event through the track’s Youtube and Facebook channels, the signal was provided to more than 500 outlets around the world, including Australia.

Total handle brought in for the evening was $1,823,520 versus a tally of $1,773,884 accumulated during the Breeders Crown Friday event at Harrah’s Hoosier Park in 2017. The evening also produced an $18,000 carryover in the Hoosier High Five, which will kick off wagering in race 15 on Saturday with a $60,000 guaranteed pool. The 20-cent minimum wager provides a low 12 percent takeout, making the option very appealing to racing fans.

“I couldn’t be more pleased with the first night of the Breeders Crown,” said Rick Moore, vice president and general manager of racing. “The handle exceeded 2017 with two less Breeders Crown races this year. But even more than that, the execution by our team for those on track was outstanding. Everyone had a great time in a socially distant manner. And, the fact that the last Breeders Crown produced the first dead heat in history, and the last race produced a carryover in the Hoosier High Five is the cherry on the sundae. Because of that carryover, we will offer a $60,000 guarantee on the Hoosier High Five on Saturday.”

Breeders Crown is back in action Saturday (Oct. 31) with eight finals on tap. First post for the 15-race card is set for 6 p.m. with Breeders Crown finals carded as the last eight races on the card.

Harrah’s Hoosier Park is currently operating at a reduced capacity, in accordance with the State of Indiana and regulatory guidelines. Both Harrah’s Hoosier Park and the Hambletonian Society remain committed to following all safety protocols outlined by the State of Indiana and set forth in Harrah’s Hoosier Park’s health and safety plan.
