Blue Ivy repeats at The Meadows with lightning lane charge; Palone wins six

Washington, Pa — Blue Ivy made it two straight when she roared through the Lightning Lane and captured Wednesday’s (Aug 5) $17,900 Filly & Mare Open Handicap Pace at The Meadows.

Play For Pay led the field through mid-stretch, but when Aaron Merriman angled Blue Ivy inside, the 4-year-old daughter of Captaintreacherous-All Blue was the stronger mare, scoring in 1:50.3 to match her career best. Always Giggling rallied for second, 1-1/2 lengths back, while Play For Pay saved show.

Bill Bercury trains Blue Ivy, who won for the fifth time in six 2020 starts and boosted her career bankroll to $239,010, for Renee Bercury.

Dave Palone collected six wins on the 15-race card while Aaron Merriman and trainer Tim Twaddle each fashioned a triple.

Live racing at The Meadows resumes Saturday when the program features a $4,135.30 carryover in the final-race Super Hi-5. First post is 12:45 p.m.
