Bold Eagle double in classic races in Sweden

The two biggest races for 3-year-old trotters in Sweden, the Kriterium and the Oaks, were won by offspring to French trotting champion Bold Eagle.

Bold Eagle stamped himself as an influential sire Saturday afternoon (Sept. 26) with the wins in the Swedish classic trotting races, Svensk Trav-Kriterium, won by Brambling, and The Svensk Trav-Oaks, won by Eagle Eye Sherry.

The Kriterium had a purse for the winner of $440.000 and Brambling, trained by Daniel Redén and with Ôrjan Kihlström in the bike, fought bravely to win by a head over the favorite, San Moteur (Panne de Moteur), and Henry Flyer Sisu (also sired by Bold Eagle).

Brambling is the first foal from Deepdish (Muscle Hill), who was a $320,000 yearling. Deepdish was campaigned in the United States by Jonas Czernyson as a 2-year-old, racing three times but didn’t sparkle. The owner, SRF Stable, took her to Sweden and trained by Roger Walmann, Deepdish won five races and took a mark of 1:55.2f.

The Oaks winner, Eagle Eye Sherry, is trained by Björn Goop, who was stood down from racing this weekend. Stefan Persson was in the bike behind the filly, who beat Hoboken Am (sired by Muscle Hill) to win by a half-length. The purse for the winner was $310,000.

The dam of Eagle Eye Sherry is Sherry, she by Credit Winner.
