Bold Eagle looks to fight back in Grand Prix de Paris

Bold Eagle, the richest active French trotter, is trying to get back on top of the game Sunday afternoon (Feb. 10) at Vincennes in the Grand Prix de Paris, the second richest international trotting race at the Winter meeting.

In the Prix d’Amerique Bold Eagle, driven by Franck Nivard, finished a disappointing sixth, but he missed the start and afterwards he was not able to catch up with the leaders.

The Prix de Paris is raced over the 1-5/16th mile distance and behind the gate. The distance and the gate is an advantage for Bold Eagle. The last four times he has raced under those circumstances he has won; his only defeat was in the Prix de France last year, where he was a beaten second to Belina Josselyn.

The French ballerina, Belina Josselyn, driven by Jean Michel Bazire, is coming fresh from the victory in the Prix d’Amerique and will have many followers in Sunday’s race.

But the Prix de France could also see the Swedish entry, Readly Express driven by Björn Goop, in the winner’s circle. Readly Express was just beaten by a head in third in the Prix d’Amerique after a tough race, where he had to trot without cover for most of the trip.

Though Norwegian sensation Looking Superb, with Alexandre Abrivard, who finished second in the Prix d’Amerique, also is entered in the Prix de France, Sunday’s race looks to be a battle just between Bold Eagle, Belina Josselyn and Readly Express.

The start list is below:
