Cable wins Southern Tier Amateur Club Trot at Tioga

Nichols, NY — The compact field of six went to post Saturday night (June 19) over the 5/8 oval in upstate NY. A heavy rainstorm hit the area about half an hour before post causing the fast surface to turn to a good off track.

Aruba Vacation (Maurice Brooks Jr.) found himself on the lead as he left from the four post and is the spot the old classy veteran likes to be.  He was able to sustain that lead until the three-quarter pole when Cashahallic (Jeffrey Schaefer) came first-over and collared the leader as the field turned for home.

He was being followed second over by Dw’s Revenge (Leon Cable) who tipped off of his cover around the turn and opened up to a convincing 5-1/4 length victory over the good track.  Mayfair Well (Joseph Skowyra) closed nicely for second and Schaefer held on for the show dough.  The mile went in a soft 1:59.2 for these trotters.  The 7-year-old gelding is owned by David Jarvis out of Michigan and is trained by his driver, “Lucky” Leon Cable.

The amateur trotters will be back next Saturday for their weekly race.  Post time is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
