Calabrese wins fourth leg of GSY Series

East Rutherford, NJ — Although there was only one division on the Friday night (March 5) card, it featured lots of action, as is customary in the amateur pacing series.

After a sensible first quarter in :28.1 by newcomer Gotta Go B B (Fredi Herrera), he was quickly challenged on the outside by one of last week’s winner, Watchmeneighneigh (Tony Beltrami). These two dueled to the half-mile and three-quarter poles but in the end, this set up the race for the closers.

Post time favorite Preppy Art (John Calabrese), got away seventh, but slowly grinded his way out at the half-mile marker and was able to clear to the lead in the stretch. He won convincingly by four lengths. Rockinwiththebest(Joe Lee) finished second and a tiring Watchmeneighneigh held onto the show dough. The mile was timed in 1:54.1.

This 9-year-old gelding is out of the mare Electric Smile and is sired by Art Colony. He is owned by Chad Lennon and is trained by Vincent Stallworth.

The GSY Series will be set for its fifth leg in the series next Friday night. The first post is scheduled for 6 p.m.
