Carolina Beach earns Lightning Lane win in Meadows feature

Washington, PA — Carolina Beach shot the Lightning Lane for Aaron Merriman to capture Friday’s (Dec. 10) feature at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows, a $12,100 conditioned pace.

Carolina Beach seized the early lead from post three but yielded at the quarter to Done Well. In the stretch, a refreshed Carolina Beach was the stronger horse, scoring in 1:51.2. SB Bodacious found a late seam for second, three-quarters of a  length back, while Done Well saved show.

Bill Bercury trains Carolina Beach, a 7-year-old Somebeachsomewhere-Laughandbehappy gelding who notched career win 42 and extended his lifetime bankroll to $498,892, for Renee Bercury.

Elsewhere on Friday’s card, Dream Out Loud N, a 14-year-old Bettor’s Delight-Nothin Butadreamer gelding who faces mandatory retirement at the end of this month, won his seventh straight and 18th this year, moving him into a tie for “winningest” horse this year in North America. He shares the top spot with Winning Shadow and Swan Fine Lady. Dave Palone drove for trainer Marcus Marashian, who owns with Tina Porfilio.

Hunter Myers and Merriman each piloted three winners on the 12-race card.
