Charles Plotner, 76, dies

Columbus, OH — Charles Plotner, 76, of Philo, Ill., died May 3, 2019, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

He was born June 24, 1942, in Champaign, a son of Wilbert and Helen (Oderbrecht) Plotner. He married Linda Martin on Nov. 27, 1976. She survives.

Also surviving are his sons, Brent (fiancée Amanda) and Paul (Xiao-Hua); grandsons, Matthew and Ryan; and sisters, Joan Jones and Judy. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle; and his parents.

Mr. Plotner lived on his great-grandfather’s farm and farmed the land he loved for 42 years. There were horses continuously on this Centennial Farm since 1884. He raised Standardbred horses for 47 years with more than 400 foals, and he loved his horses with a passion.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday (May 9) at St. John Lutheran Church, 509 S. Mattis, Champaign, with a visitation from 9:30-11 a.m. at the church. The Rev. Jeff Caithamer will officiate. There will be a private burial service. Freese Funeral Home, Tolono, is assisting with arrangements.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, Champaign, or the donor’s choice.
