Chip Chip Conway scores in Open Trot at Monticello Raceway

Monticello, NY — On Wednesday (June 9), Chip Chip Conway handily dispatched the short field of five to win the $6,700 Open Trot at Monticello Raceway in 1:58.2.

Tax Savings was first away from the gate, followed by Cinnamon Stick and Chip Chip Conway. They were three wide going the backstretch to the quarter-pole. Chip Chip Conway made the front and cut the fractions of :28.4, :58.1, and 1:28.1 to win by 5-1/2 lengths in 1:58.2 and pay $3.60 to win. Finishing second was Sweet Royalty and taking the show position was Raceace.

It was the fifth win of the season for the son of Conway Hall. Chip Chip Conway is owned by Ken Weckstein and trainer Gary Messenger. Jim Taggart Jr. was the driver. He drove two winners on the afternoon after getting dumped in the previous day’s first race.

Also on the card in the Catskill Amateur Drivers Series, McKenzie Sowers won her first race of the season aboard Midnight Shark in 1:57.1. McKenzie is the 22-year-old daughter of leading Monticello Raceway trainer Bo Sowers.

The fastest mile of the year also occurred on the card. Junior’s Dew scored in 1:53.3 for driver Cory Stratton. Junior’s Dew is trained by Ashley Eldred and owned by Marianna Monaco.
