Ciuffetelli and Zuccarello are NAADA winners at Yonkers

Yonkers, NY — Two divisions of trotters in the North American Amateur Drivers Association series went to post Thursday night (May 13) at Yonkers Raceway with one split as a non-wagering event off the card followed by a betting race on the nightly wagering program. Matt Zuccarello won the non-betting contest with Stealing while Tony Ciuffetelli guided Golden Kronos home first in the wagering event.

Sent away as race one on the 10-race betting card, Golden Kronos started from the pole and got away third as Exarch and driver Tony Verruso showed the way by the first stanza in :28. Verruso kept the pedal to the metal as Exarch got first call at the half in :58.1.

Ciuffetelli was the first to move and he rallied Golden Kronos off the pylons and they headed for the lead. But Exarch fought to rebuff his challenger and he still had command as they trotted by the three-quarters in 1:27.2. But as they rounded the final turn and readied for the stretch drive, Golden Kronos eased to the front and went on to a 1-1/2 length triumph in 1:57. Exarch hung on gamely for second while Madhatter Bluechip garnered the show dough for Joe Lee.

Golden Kronos, a 7-year-old Chapter Seven gelding, is owned by Mike Pozefsky, William Pozefsky and Myron Ekstein and is trained by Chip Zombick. He paid $9.20 for win.

Matt Zuccarello copped the non-betting affair with a patient drive behind Stealing, making it the second time that they were victorious in the series.

After starting form the three-hole Zuccarello took command and then yielded to Dark Pool (Jake Stillwell) as the latter took command in the :28.4 first quarter. Then all Zuccarello had to do was follow the leader, which he did, to the top of the stretch and then rallied his trotter to a head triumph in 1:58.1. Dark Pool was second best while Mike Polansky hustled Noble Warrawee home third.
