Classic Banker springs 6-1 upset in Meadows $18,000 Trot

Washington, PA — Not intimidated by his millionaire rival, Classic Banker challenged Wind Of The North first over and went on to spring the 6-1 upset in Monday’s $18,000 Preferred Handicap Trot at The Meadows.

Wind Of The North reached the $1 million milestone in his last race and seemed poised to pad that bankroll after a comfortable 29.4 second quarter. But Classic Banker and Brady Brown had other ideas, drawing even with Wind Of The North into the final turn and putting him away in deep stretch. The 8-year-old Classic Photo-Banker’s Review gelding scored in 1:55.4 while the pocket-sitting Chef Lee shot up the Lightning Lane for place, a length bank. Wind Of The North saved show.

Joe Urban trains and owns Classic Banker, who won his second straight and vaulted over $200,000 in career earnings.

Dave Palone piloted three winners on the 13-race card, including a pair for trainer Marcus Marashian.
