Columbus, OH — Claude Richards, 60, died on July 9. Richards began his career as a horseman at 15. He won his first drive on this 21st birthday on the roan horse, Bold Emperor, Goshen, N.Y. That experience hooked him on the sport.

Mr. Richards learned from some of the best in harness racing such as: George Sholty, Eldon Harner, Archie Niles, Marcel Dostie, Gary Lewis, and other great trainers.

His favorite horses included Paul Lynde and Miss Biggie Smalls who was Trotting Mare of the Year at Pompano Park in 2003. Richards owned Miss Biggie Smalls through his Notorious B.I.G. Stable.

Mr. Richards was great with breaking babies and in recent years he broke Thundercrest. He was currently racing under trainer Dustin Ingraham and had done well for his brother, owner Mike Richards.

Mr. Richards raced on many tracks throughout the country, but Pompano was his home. He is survived by his mother Mary Richards; children Paige and Kaitlyn; sisters Mary Jo, Diane, Cindy;brother Mike; nephews Brandon, Joey and Vincent; and numerous friends.
