Clyde Ralph Stevens, 80, dies

Clyde Ralph Stevens, 80, passed away at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO on Friday (Oct. 11). He was born July 30, 1939 and was a native of LaCenter, KY.

Stevens was a familiar face at the fairs and racetracks in Kentucky and Illinois, being very involved as an owner and breeder for most of his life.

He was a member of the USTA and the owner of Stevens Standardbred Stables. The Stevens owned horses bore the “Chevie” brand in their name. Some of the top performers were Chevie Cash p,2,1:50.4 ($265,078), Chevie Nitrous p,3,1:52.4 ($116,852) and former 2-year-old world champion Chevie Duramax p,2,1:50.3 ($116,342).

Stevens owned and operated Stevens Chevrolet Dealership in LaCenter from 1960-2009. He also owned and operated a John Deere Dealership in LaCenter for several years.

Stevens served as commissioner for the City of LaCenter for several years, Ballard County Fair Board and served on the Board of Directors for People’s Bank for several years.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years; Anne Adams Stevens of LaCenter, one son Kent Stevens and his wife Lisa of Kevil, KY, one daughter Kim Terrell and her husband Jackie of LaCenter. Three grandchildren; Zach Stevens of LaCenter, Kala Trainer and her husband Justin of Kevil and Dylan Nichols and his wife Whitney of LaCenter. Three great grandchildren; Kylie Trainer, Kolten Trainer and Hayden Nichols. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; Ralph and Alice Evelyn (Elrod) Stevens.

Visitation will be Sunday (Oct. 13) after 3 p.m. at Morrow Funeral Chapel in LaCenter. Masonic Rites will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday evening. Funeral Services will be Monday (Oct. 14) at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in LaCenter with the Rev. Brian Steward officiating. Interment will follow at LaCenter Cemetery.
