Crawford County Fair hosts Buckeye Stallion Series

Grove City, OH — The Buckeye Stallion Series made a stop at the Crawford County Fair in Bucyrus, Ohio, Wednesday night (July 22). The 2-year-old colt trotters filled four divisions in the second leg of the series, with each racing going for a purse of $17,500.

Scott Mogan’s Cellular with driver Sandy Beatty came three and four-wide from the three-quarter pole to get up by a nose in 2:03.4 in the first division. The Uncle Peter-Fire In The Cell colt is owned by Mogan, Green Wave Racing and Carol Cramer. The longshot paid $20.60 and defeated the favorite Checkmate and Ryan Stahl while Blank Space As finished third for Tyler Smith.

Stahl was not to be denied in the second division as Dontforgetlittlman was a winner by three-quarters of a length in 2:04 with a final panel in :29.3 for owner-trainer Deborah Swartz. The favorite by Dontyouforgetit-Gutsy Hall got away fourth from post five and took the lead in the lane to get the victory. Grafenberg with Shawn Baker II was second with Csgoldenchip and Daren Harvey third. Dontforgetlittlman paid $5.80.

In the third division, Newsboy dominated going wire-to-wire for driver Alex Hawk and trainer Charles Vigneron in 2:02.1 with a final quarter of 29.4. Cheryl Vigneron owns the colt by Winning Fireworks-Lady SJ and returned $39.20 to win over the favorite Peter’s Royalty and Josh Sutton while Very Smart and Ryan Stahl finished third.

The final BSS winner on the card was Worldsstonecold As with Elliott Deaton for trainer Anette Lorentzon in 2:05. The colt by Lionhunter out of Tropical Breeze As left from post one and got a two-hole trip before scoring by 1-1/2 lengths over the favorite Johnny Boy and Jonas Hershberger with Blue Jacket and Josh Sutton third. The winner paid $8.60.

The third leg of the Buckeye Stallion Series for 2-year-old colt trotters is scheduled for Wednesday (Aug. 12) at MGM Northfield Park.
