Crossfit remains sharp, wins Pocono feature

Wilkes-Barre, PA — Crossfit turned back all challengers and equaled his career best of 1:54.2 in the Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 27) feature at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, a $15,000-$20,000 claiming handicap for trotters.

The 4-year-old Donato Hanover gelding overtook Cash For Gold for the lead just past a :28 quarter, but got no respite as Pilgrims Tide moved first-over from fourth to force middle fractions of :56.2 and 1:25. When Pilgrims Tide faded, Cash For Gold angled out of the pocket, but got no closer to Crossfit than 1-1/2 lengths at the finish.

Tyler Buter drove Crossfit for trainer Susan Marshall, who shares ownership with John Marshall. Crossfit has now won two straight and four of his last seven starts.

George Napolitano Jr. brought in six winners on the Tuesday afternoon card. With five programs left in the 2020 season, Napolitano has amassed a 50-win lead in the driving standings, and has all but mathematically captured his ninth straight Pocono crown and his 14th overall dating to 2003.
