Darryl Maccannell, 54, dies

Columbus, OH — Darryl Maccannell, 54, died Sept. 14, 2020, in Columbus, Ohio, with loved ones close by following a heart attack.

Known by anyone he met as one of the good guys, he spent most of his life involved in horse racing. Any of his friends would say that he was the first one to call when you needed an ear or some company. He harnessed and saddled winners on both sides of the horse racing industry.

He owned or trained several winners over the years and when he wasn’t racing his own he was helping out at prestigious operations across North America including the Carmen Auciello stable, Chris Beaver stable, and Anthony Montini stable to name a few.

Mr. Maccannell is survived by his two sisters and brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews; and countless close friends who have all mourned his passing. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was truly special to all that had the opportunity to know him.

A celebration of his life will take place Sept. 22 in Delaware, Ohio, from 7 p.m.-Midnight.
