Dead heat in Sweden’s oldest stake race

For the first time ever Sweden’s oldest stake race, Svensk Uppfödningslöpning for 2-year old trotters finished in a dead heat Saturday afternoon at Jâgersro.

The photo finish couldn’t divide favorite Bythebook and driven by Ôrjan Kihlström and the outsider, Belker driven by Torbjörn Jansson.

Bythebook, who is sired by GooGoo GaaGaa, looked like he was going to win down the stretch, but on the outside, Belker came flying and they went past the post side by side, timed in 1.58.3f.

It was the first win in this race for Ôrjan Kihlström, who has been a very dominant driver in Europe for many years. Torbjörn Jansson had won the race once earlier.

It was also a first big stake victory in Europa for the stallion GooGoo GaaGaa, who is the sire of Bythebook., Belker is sired by Scarlet Knight.

Sharing the victory meant, that both got a cheque for 115.000 dollars.

Another stallion got his first win a big stake race on the same day.

In France Green Grass, sired by legendary Bold Eagle, won the first stake race of the year for 2-year old fillies, Prix Vourasie at Vincennes.

Green Grass, who like Bold Eagle is trained by Sebastian Guarato, was driven by Gabriele Gelormini and took her third win in six starts.

The 2-year old colts met Friday evening in the Prix Ourasi, and that was an easy task for Gotland – another promising son to Ready Cash.

Gotland driven by Eric Raffin and trained by Philippe Allaire, has now raced four times and have four wins and is considered the next top trotter in France.
