Manalapan, NJ — When Lover Of Art won the $71,662 Historic-Debutante Stakes on July 1 at the Meadowlands, it put a spotlight on the late, great New Jersey-based pacing stallion Artsplace.

Lover Of Art is from the 139 registered foals in the stallion’s last crop. Artsplace, the Horse of the Year in 1992, died on October 30, 2006 at the age of 19.

To date, Artsplace, who stood at Southwind Farms in Pennington, N.J., has produced 1,363 starters who have earned more than $137 million, including 350 offspring who were earners of $100,000 or more.

His top 10 included Art Major ($2.7 million), Glowing Report ($2 million), Worldly Beauty ($1.9 million), Galleria ($1.8 million), Grinfromeartoear ($1.7 million), Whosurboy ($1.6 million), Artiscape ($1.5 million), Steinam’s Place ($1.4 million), Dream Away ($1.3 million) and Arturo ($1.3 million).

Lover Of Art, the first foal out of the Western Ideal mare Promise Me Hanover, made her pari-mutuel debut in the Debutante for 2-year-old pacing fillies and rallied from off the pace to win by a half-length in 1:56.3. The Chris Ryder trainee was driven to victory by Tim Tetrick.

Lover Of Art led a New Jersey sweep of all the checks in the stakes as she was followed across the wire by JK Sure I Can (Rocknroll Hanover), Camsamericangirl (Cam’s Card Shark), Jolene’s Delight (Cam’s Card Shark) and Margin Blue Chip (Artsplace).

The winner banked $35,831 for her owner-breeders, Brittany Farms and the Brian P. Monieson Trust.
