Determined Bank Box Treasure springs 11-1 upset in Meadows feature

Washington, PA – Pressured throughout the back half by the 2-5 choice, a determined Bank Box Treasure turned him back and sprang the 11-1 upset in Friday’s (Feb. 19) feature at The Meadows, a $9,400 Conditioned Trot.

When On Higher Ground moved first over to challenge Bank Box Treasure, it appeared only a matter of time before the heavy favorite cruised by. But Bank Box Treasure had other ideas, putting On Higher Ground away and holding off the late rally of Outburst to edge him by a nose in 1:58 over a sloppy surface. On Higher Ground saved show.

Tony Hall piloted the 5-year-old son of Break The Bank K-Treasure Box K for trainer Rich Gillock and the estate of Bob Key.

Hall collected four wins and Dan Rawlings three on the 13-race card.

Live racing at The Meadows resumes Wednesday (Feb. 24) when the program features a pair of rich wagering opportunities — an $18,538.18 carryover in the final-race Super Hi-5 and a $15,000 total-pool guarantee for the Pick-5 (race 8). First post is 12:45 p.m.
