Diable de Vauvert wins first qualifier for Prix d’Amerique

Vincennes, France – Nine trotters finished within a length past the post in the Prix de Bretagne, the first qualification race for the Prix d’Amerique, which was raced on Sunday (Nov. 22) at Vincennes.

Going into the stretch, the favorite Valzer di Poggio with Jean Michel Bazire was in command, but he was challenged by several opponents and went off stride 50 meters before the finish line.

In the middle of the track, 7-year old Diable de Vauvert with Gabriele Gelormini was able to reach the finish line first, followed by Feliciano with David Thomain and Bahia Quesnot with Junior Guelpa.

Those three are now qualified for the Prix d’Amerique.

Diable de Vauvert had been sidelined because of health issues, but this year he has returned to action, and his trainer, Bertrand du Beller, has developed him into a top trotter.

Sunday’s win was the fifth from nine races this year and the most prestigious.

In Italy, the mile race, Palio dei Comune at the track in Montegiorgio was won by Norwegian-bred, but Italian owned and trained Chief Orlando with V. Gallo in the bike in 1.54f.
