Dominick Santarelli, 83, dies

Columbus, OH —– Dominick R. Santarelli, 83, of Scranton, Pa., formerly of Jessup, died Oct. 19, 2018, at home.

Born in Peckville, June 11, 1935, he was the son of Armand and Jennie Agostini Santarelli. He graduated from Jessup High School in 1953.

He excelled in baseball and football in high school and was chosen athlete of the week. He was sought after by professional baseball and football teams alike. He pitched several no-hit, no-run games; he lost only one game in three years. He was an avid sportsman, hunting and fishing throughout his whole life.

Most of his career involved managing horse farms in New Jersey, including Lana Lobell. The last 20 years of his career he was manager of Southwind Farms in Pennington, N.J. He became world renowned for his skills in breeding horses for harness racing, especially the world champion Valley Victory, and owned many award winning horses.

He is survived by a daughter, Donna Florimonte (Don Strasburger); sister, Joyce (Patrick) McDonnell; nephew, Patrick (Linda) McDonnell and their son, Matthew Christian McDonnell; and niece, Michelle (Joseph) Minelli. He was preceded in death by a son, Dominick, “Chipper”.
