Donald Mike, 81, dies

Columbus, OH — Donald L. Mike, 81, of Bulger, Pa., died in his home on June 26, 2021.

He was born Sept. 6, 1939, in Smith Twp., a son of the late Joseph and Sophia (Abood) Mike.

Mr. Mike was a busy man. He was constantly on the move and in his younger days could be found at the Meadows Racetrack, racing harness horses. He loved his horse racing and he shared it with his family. In his time racing he was an owner, trainer and driver. His most beloved horse was The Town Terror, whom he bred and raised from birth, after racing his mother for some time. Together they won numerous races and made amazing memories with his family.

Mr. Mike could be referred to as “Mr. Fix It” since he had a solution for any problem. He loved to tinker and find a way to repair anything around the house. This was a second nature for him, as he had worked as a carpenter, construction worker and steelworker, for some time. As his grandkids would say, “Pap can fix anything.”

He always enjoyed being outdoors, there was not a time where he wanted to be inside. Whether he was fishing, hunting or traveling, he needed to be outside. He and his wife, Carol, loved to travel. He found the perfect partner for his busy life and they led such an adventurous life together, all the way until the end.

Mr. Mike is survived by his wife, Carol (Gerhart); children, Donald (Janelle) Jr., Diane McGrew, Joe (Mary Ellen), and Cynthia Huggins; stepchildren, Donna (Scott) Ruta and Dina (Sal) Digati; grandchildren, Brian Ferguson, Jordan (Liz) Pager, Luke Huggins and Sam Huggins; step-grandchildren, Erika Forsberg, Derek Digati, Dylan Digati, and Oliva Thompson; great-granddaughter, Charlee Pager; sisters, Edna, Helen Catrain, Dolores (Merle) Amic, and Donna Bish. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Sarah Hanna, Freda Koleno, Anna Phillips, and Gloria.

Friends and family will be received on Thursday (July 1) from 2-8 p.m. in Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc., 314 W. Lincoln Ave., McDonald (724.926.2800). A funeral service will be held on Friday (July 2) at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Following the service burial will take place at St. George Cemetery in Bridgeville.
