Dover to host sophomore Matrons Thursday

Dover, DE — Four divisions of the Matron Stakes highlight the Thursday (Nov. 14) racing card at Dover Downs.

In the Matron Stake for 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings, Breeders Crown champion Gimpanzee leads a field of eight talented trotters. Gimpanzee has earned over $1.5 million lifetime and has been a force throughout the year. The Marcus Melander trainee received the Dan Patch Award in 2018 as the top 2-year-old trotter. Don’t Let’em broke the track record at Harrah’s Hoosier Park in his last start. If he minds his manners, he could be a solid threat to upset the favorite.

Winndevie is favored in the 3-year-old filly trot division. She trotted from off the pace and captured the Breeders Crown for trainer Trond Smedshammer. Other contenders include When Dovescry and Evident Beauty.

In the 3-year-old filly pace, 2018 Dan Patch Award winner Warrawee Ubeaut sports an eight-race win streak for trainer Ron Burke, including a victory in the Breeders Crown. Tony Alagna trainee Tall Drink Hanover upset Warrawee Ubeaut earlier in the season, and owns a 1:48 track record to her accomplishments.

The final Matron Stake is for 3-year-old colt and gelding pacers, and is probably the most competitive of the Matron race. Bettor’s Wish has earned over $1.4 million this year and sported a four-race win streak, however the streak was snapped when Dancin Lou upset him in the Breeders Crown. Captain Crunch also upset Bettor’s Wish earlier in the season and boasts a 1:47.2 track record to his accomplishments.
