Dr. Andy Roberts explains veterinarians’ opposition to Horse Racing Integrity Act

Columbus, OH – In his Op-Ed in Saturday’s (Feb. 8) Star-Ledger/nj.com, “Vets want what’s best for the horse, not their pocketbooks,” Veterinarian Dr. Andy Roberts explains that he, like every veterinarian in America, took an oath of practice to protect animal health and welfare.

He says that for politicians to claim that thousands of equine veterinarians are violating this oath by opposing the misnamed “Horseracing Integrity Act” on economic grounds is insulting and false.

Equine veterinarians oppose the legislation because of the harm it will do to horses by banning the race-day use of Lasix, not because of the harm to our pocketbooks.
