Eldon Spearman, 93, dies

Columbus, OH — Eldon Wayne Spearman, 93, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, died Nov. 20, 2019, at his residence.

Mr. Spearman was born Feb. 3, 1926, in Knox County, to Lester and Martha (Diehl) Spearman and had lived his lifetime in the Green Valley area.

He was a farmer by vocation but he loved his horses. He raised and trained Standardbreds and was well known and respected for his equine expertise.

Mr. Spearman enjoyed fishing at local ponds and hunting. He spent his early years at Jewell Dairy delivering milk.

He was a member of the United States Trotting Association, Liberty Grange and the Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his daughter, Candy Laymon; granddaughters, Laura (Brian) Frazier and Christin (Wesley) Garver; great-grandchildren, Makayla Frazier, Griffin Garver, Owen Garver and Sophia Garver; brother, Herbert (Aileen); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Avanelle (Gadd); daughter, Shaunette; brothers, Clarence and Leland; sisters, Evelyn Mills and Janet Winand; and great-nephew, Travis Boucher.

The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge Mike and Kokie Spearman, Phil Spearman and his children, Brad and Linda Spearman, Jill and Cephas Macklin, Nina and Mark Boucher and Amy and Cliff Carpenter for their help in assisting with Eldon’s care.

Friends may call Friday (Nov. 22) from 4-6 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio. A funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. with Pastor Thom Fowler officiating. Private burial will be in Green Valley Cemetery.
