Elwood Davidson, 84, dies

Columbus, OH — Elwood Gordon Davidson, 84, died Jan. 8, 2021.

Born in 1936, he lived most of his life in Montgomery County, Pa, before retiring in the Poconos, recently residing in Milford, Del. The only child of Evelyn (Mairs) and Elwood Smith Davidson, he died on the same day his mother died 79 years earlier.

He lived with his Aunt Mary most of his childhood. At a young age, he joined the U.S. Army and served his tour of duty in Germany. He worked in the Davidson family business, then followed his passion for training and racing Standardbreds for the rest of his life. He never lost his love for horses and other animals.

Mr. Davidson, also known as Sonny, Dad, Duke, Corky and Wedgwood, was a quiet thoughtful man with a wonderful sense of humor, much loved by his family, with a wide circle of friends. He enjoyed a simple life.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; children, Lorey Davidson Torrieri (Rick), Keith, Jennifer Davidson Rambo (Rick); grandchildren, Teddy (Jared) Ratjen, Dani Torrieri and Rikki Torrieri; his extended family, Lisa Rittenhouse, Charles Thomes and Ava Rittenhouse; brother, David; and sisters, Joy (Lee) Moyer and Diane (Mike) Hartman.

He was dearly loved, is missed by his family and will be held in our hearts until we meet again.
