Entries coming in for National Standardbred show

from the SPHO-NJ

Millstone Township, NJ — The entries for the Aug. 9-10 National Standardbred show are starting to come in and all classes can be viewed at this link.

This site will be updated frequently as more entries comes in.

Foiled Again will not be at the show this year, but his breeder, Barbara Matthews, is bringing two retired Standardbreds for the Roadster Division. Barbara said she got both her Standardbreds off the road and her gelding, Speedy Jesse (Jailhouse Jesse-Speedy Irish) has a third place from the World Championships in his baggage. Her mare, Memo To Me, is a young 4-year-old and she is being prepped for the USTA Roadster Class in 2016.

Mighty Young Joe is beginning his show career for Stacy Chiodo.

Both these horses can be seen in the Roadster To Bike class (sponsored by Bix DiMeo) on Monday (Aug. 10) as class #69, with Barbara herself behind Speedy Jesse and her trainer Kierry Holahan with Memo To Me.

In addition to her two fine show horses, Barbara is also owner of a couple of racehorses, as well as broodmares. Although a long time National Horseshow sponsor, this is the first time Barbara is coming with horses to the show and she said her Standardbreds “have always been a joy to be around. It is a great opportunity for the Standardbred as the roadster division has had a surge in popularity!”

The Fresh Off The Track division (sponsored by Brittany Farms) will as usual have a lot of fresh faces, both human and equine, and this year newly retired Mighty Young Joe will make his debut in his new career.

Mighty Young Joe was sidelined by a race injury back in April, but has been nursed back to health by his constant partner and trainer Stacy Chiodo. Stacy will be at the reins for his show career also, as well as she was on the race track. Mighty Young Joe is a 12-year-old and holds $537,279 in his bank account and a hefty 1:49.3 mark set at the age of 11.

Stacy and Mighty Young Joe will also show in the Rookie division (sponsored by Magical Acres) and the very popular War Horse Division (sponsored by The New Meadowlands).

The SPHO-NJ want to thank all sponsors, exhibitors and volunteers and hope to see a lot of Standardbred fans at this 21st annual event, showcasing only USTA registered Standardbreds.

Food vendor, free parking, shaded seating and clean bathrooms are offered both days at the beautiful Horse Park of New Jersey.
