Etonnant, with Anthony Barrier in the bike, sprang a big surprise in the French marathon race, Prix de Paris, at Vincennes on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 28).

The Prix de Paris is raced over 2-5/8th miles and had Davidson du Pont with Jean Michel Bazire as the favorite, but just like in the Prix de France a fortnight ago, the 8-year-old trotter made a break and was disqualified.

Etonnant, a 7-year-old son of legendary Timoko, was in command the whole trip and was able to win in 2:00 (mile rate) as a 60-1 shot.

Etonnant is just like his famous father, trained by Richard Westerink, and with today’s purse of 170,000 Euro ($205,000), Etonnant is now the richest offspring of Timoko. Etonnant has earnings of 811,600 Euro — or $980,000.
