Fair racing continues in Pennsylvania

Racing continued at both the Wayne County (Honesdale) and Greene County (Waynesburg) Fairs in Pennsylvania on Wednesday, August 8, with a mix of Sires Stake, Quaker Stake and overnight events.

At Honesdale, Fire And Art (Jim Martin) opened the day with a victory in the $3,874 PA sired 3-year-old filly pace, scoring in 2:03. A Dragon Again filly, Fire And Art earned the win for owner Pamela Wagner and trainer Manley Brown, Jr.

RT Gizmo showed his talent in the $3,989 PASS 3-year-old colt trot, winning in 2:06.3 for trainer/driver Robert Rougeaux. The RT Giant gelding is owned by Harold Brocious.

The day’s other stake event, the $3,759 PASS 3-year-old colt pace was captured by Adelia’s Groom, driven by Timmy Offutt for his dad, trainer Joe Offutt. Adelia’s Groom (Western Hero) paced the mile in 2:02 for owners Frank Russell and the estate of James Russell.

In overnight action, Riddles Bliss (Blissfull Hall), a 4-year-old, set a new track standard for older pacing mares, timed in 2:01.3 for driver Jim Martin and trainer Phillip Martin.

Across the state in Waynesburg, Firebreathn Dragon (Dragon’s Lair) opened the day with a victory in the $4,185 PA sired freshman colt pace. The gelding crossed the wire in 2:04 for owner Patricia Daumit, trainer Bill Daumit and driver Bob Gaylor.

Two divisions of the freshman filly pace for state breds were carded, won by Matchless (Spy Hard) and Tea Room Artist (Real Artist). Matchless was a 2:07.3 winner for owners Randy and Cliff Neal. Randy Neal was in the bike for his dad, trainer Cliff. Tea Room Artist gave the Offutt family wins on both sides of the state, as driver Chris Offutt drove the winner for Joe Offutt. The father and son co-own the filly, who paced in 2:03.4.

Apocalypse Hanover (Andover Hall) and Forrest County (Sierra Kosmos) won their respective divisions of the 3-year-old PASS colt trot. Moira Fahy’s Apocalypse Hanover, trained and reined by Bill Fahy, was a 2:06 winner, while Forrest County, driven by Wilbur Yoder for John and Michelle McMullen, won in 2:08.3.

Sophomore filly trotters also split into two groups, with Susquehanna County (Sierra Kosmos) and Buy Caviar (SJ’s Caviar) earning top honors. Susquehanna County gave the McMullens and Yoder their second win of the day with a 2:08.4 score, while Buy Caviar trotted in 2:12.3 for owner Ray Giambelluca and trainer J.C. Miller, Jr. Jordon Miller, J.C.’s 17-year-old son, was in the bike for his first career driving win.

Racing concludes at both Waynesburg and Honesdale on Thursday, August 9.
