Thursday’s (August 20) edition of Fair Roundup features a results story from the Dayton (PA) Fair.

Sophomores in action at Dayton Fair

Dayton, PA — The Dayton, Pennsylvania Fairgrounds concluded its 2009 meet with 3-year-old stake action on Thursday.

Bank Star was a winner for Michelle and John McMullen in a 3-year-old PA Sire Stake filly trot to start the day, cruising to a 2:07 win for driver Wilbur Yoder. John McMullen trains the daughter of Banker Hall, who has now won three of ten starts on the year.

Lahaye scored in 1:59.3 in a division of the 3-year-old colt pace.

The second filly trotting stake was won by Blazing Caviar, trained and driven by Steve Schoeffel. The SJ’s Caviar filly made a break before the first quarter, but recovered to post the win in 2:06.3 for owner Tom Barrett.

The final division was captured by the Topgun Hall filly Lady B Pearl, who was a 2:05.3 winner for owner/trainer/driver Kim Good.

In 3-year-old PASS filly pacing action, Ashley’s Pride scored in the first split. Sired by The Panderosa, Ashley’s Pride paced in 2:02.2 for owner Samuel Stoltzfus, trainer Joe Offutt, and driver Timmy Offutt.

The final two divisions were won by Roger Hammer’s fillies Bell On Wheels (Western Hanover) and Real Espresso (Real Artist). Bell On Wheels recorded her 10th win of the season by pacing in 2:01.4, while Real Espresso paced in 2:01.2 for her tenth seasonal win as well.

Two groups of sophomore PASS colt trotters were next up, with wins going to Naughty Pajamas (SJ’s Caviar) and Columbia County (Sierra Kosmos). Naughty Pajamas trotted in 2:06.1 for Timmy Offutt, who was driving for his father, owner/trainer Joe Offutt. Columbia County gave the McMullen/Yoder combination their second win of the day, cruising to a 2:04.2 victory.

In PASS 3-year-old colt pacing action, Lahaye (Real Artist) continued his dominance of the division by pacing to his ninth consecutive win for Roger Hammer. After pacing the half in 1:00.4, he covered the last half mile in :58.4 for a mile in 1:59.3, the fastest of the meet. Hammer co-owns the colt with Nevin Gilbert.

The other colt pace was won by Stately Art and Brickell in come-from-behind fashion. The son of Arturo paced in 2:03.1 for owners Barbara and Robert Krenitsky.

After the PA Sire Stake events were concluded, three Quaker Stakes were next on the track. RT Sun Poco won the lone Quaker Trot, timed in 2:05.4 for trainer/driver Bobby Rougeaux. The Yankee Paco filly is owned by the Brocious Racing Stable.

The day ended with two groups of 3-year-old Quaker pacers. Gladiare Grande won the first division in 2:02.1 for driver Jordon Miller. The Sharky Spur gelding is owned by Michael Grande and trained by JC Miller Jr. Janny, a Richess Hanvoer filly, won her first career race in 18 attempts by capturing the second split in 2:07.2. Bruce Dufford owns the winner, while Sharlene Dufford picked up the training win.
