Milton, ON — Fashion Frenzie extended his winning streak to three with an impressive open-length victory in the C$240,000 Goodtimes Final for three-year-old trotting colts tonight at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

It was Publicity Seeker (Doug McNair) with the early lead as they marched the field past the opening quarter in. :27.2. Louis-Philippe Roy aboard Fashion Frenzie wasn’t content with his view from fourth at that point and grabbed the front well before the :56.3 half.

Just as Fashion Frenzie settled on top Tim Tetrick pulled the race favorite Dancinginthedark M out from sixth to mount their challenge and they steadily advanced on the leader as they headed to the 1:24.3 third panel but midway through the final turn Dancingwiththedark M broke stride and took himself out of contention.

From there it was Fashion Frenzie on his own as he pulled away to win by four lengths in 1:53.2. Ritson (James MacDonald), one of the longest shots on the board, closed an absolute ton to take second and Publicity Seeker held for third. On A Streak and his stablemate from the Luc Blais barn Macho Martini collected the last two pay spots. A $2 win ticket on Fashion Frenzie returned $7.

“I mean, I’m pretty confident in my horse, but that horse (Dancinginthedark M) looked pretty good too, last time in the states. So when I saw him coming, it was game on right there. We hit the three-quarters in 1:24 and Timmy (Tetrick) made a break. From there, I was pretty confident that my horse was going to get us home,” noted Roy.

“(Fashion Frenzie) is one of my good friends in Quebec’s horses, Francis Richard. He co-owns with a bunch of his owners. I actually booked off him last year before the (OSS) Super Finals when he came here. I was listed on him and Logan Park. This year, I ended up picking up this drive. I really fell in love with the horse, especially this year. Earlier in the season, he felt like he was a little bit crazy in the post parade and going to the gate, but he’s just been getting smarter and smarter.

“The trip he did today, I could have let him in a hole; I could have done whatever I wanted with him, so it’s a big asset to have on a trotter,” he praised.

Richard Moreau trains the winner, a son of Archangel owned by Ecurie Francis Richard Inc., Mario Bourgea, Pierre Guillemette and Sylvain Richard of Quebec.  Fashion Frenzie was one of five Ontario-sired colts in the field and cost less than all nine of his rivals having sold for $7,000 at the London Select Sale.

Bred by John Petrik of Moorefield, Ontario, Fashion Frenzie now has over $529,000 on his card with five wins and two seconds from nine trips behind the gate this year.  He came into tonight’s contest off wins in his Goodtimes elim and an Ontario Sires Stakes Gold event.

The Goodtimes is named in honor of one of the best trotters ever bred in Ontario and a member of the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame who won more than $2 million during his career, which was then a record for a Canadian-bred trotter. Goodtimes recently celebrated his 30^th birthday at the farm of his only trainer during his career, John Bax who was on hand tonight to present the Goodtimes trophy as he has been every year.
