Father Nuno rises, wins Philly feature

Chester, PA — John Cancelliere’s Father Nuno ($7.20) withstood a class hike and a lengthy first-over grind on his way to a 1:51.3 score in Sunday’s (Nov. 21) $16,200 top-level pacing feature at Harrah’s Philadelphia.

Father Nuno commenced his first-over bid from fourth just before 1-5 pacesetter Sugartown completed a :56.3 first half. As soon as David Miller set the 4-year-old Somebeachsomewhere entire into motion, the pace picked up, as Father Nuno made up four lengths to force a :27.3 third quarter before edging away through a :27.2 final split to win by a widening 1-1/2 lengths. Sugartown (Tim Tetrick) held second; Gumption (Tony Morgan) emerged from traffic to finish third.

Tom Cancelliere trains Father Nuno, who, after missing his sophomore season, has won six of 25 races this year.
