Fillies spark sizzling miles in Ohio Sires Stakes at Northfield

Northfield, OH — Five fields of fillies provided Northfield Park harness racing fans with sizzling miles, including a new track and world record of 1:51.4 by Summer Touch, the 1-5 favorite in the first of two $50,000 Ohio Sires Stakes for 2-year-old pacing fillies on Friday evening (Aug. 7).

Summer Touch broke the world record for rookie pacing fillies over a half-mile track in her Ohio Sires Stakes event at Northfield Park.

Chris Page gave the Ron Burke-trained daughter of Well Said and Real Touch a perfect steer as she captured her second OSS contest for owners and breeders Burke Racing, Knox Services, Slaughter Racing and Weaver Bruscemi. Rainy Day Chic was second at 20-1 for Brett Miller, followed by 45-1 long shot She Knows It All (Ryan Stahl) in third.

Burke harnessed another filly — this one a trotter — to another track record performance as Merry Ann trotted to a 1:56 clocking in the first of three $40,000 OSS events. With driver Chris Page in the sulky, the 1-9 favorite used a front-stepping performance to defeat I’malovelylady and Ozma for Burke Racing, Knox Services and Weaver Bruscemi. It was the homebred Southwind Spirit-Witty Girl filly’s third win in five tries.

Burke continued his dominance when his Pinknperfect captured the second $50,000 pacing division in 1:52.4, holding off a pair of determined rivals at the finish line to upset at 7-1. Ronnie Wrenn Jr. drove the daughter of Well Said and Pink Camo for Burke Racing, Steven Jefferis, Johnny Smith and Weaver Bruscemi as she captured her first OSS contest over Leave Her Wild and Gucci. Pinknperfect, who was bred by RTK Racing, upped her career earnings to $37,500.

My Jazz cruised to a front-end victory for driver Anthony MacDonald and trainer Jason McGinnis in a new lifetime mark of 1:57.1 in the second trotting trotting division. The daughter of My MVP and Loving Jazz left the gate at 3-1 odds and easily bested rival I Am Winning (Brett Miller) and Fiesty Patrol. My Jazz, who was bred by Jake Wickey Jr.

Herculisa captured the third OSS trotting test handily at 1-5, looking much the best for driver Brett Miller in 1:56.1 over Celebrate With Me and Ciao Baby Hall. The daughter of My MVP and Herculotte Hanover won both her previous OSS legs in 1:58.1 and 1:56.2 and pushed her career earnings to $61,812 with this latest triumph. She is owned by the Jesmeral Stable, trained by Virgil Morgan Jr., and was bred by Billy Walters, Joe McLead and Up Front Racing.
