Flamme de Goutier crowned monté queen in France

Paris, France – Flamme du Goutier won the world’s richest under-saddle race, the Prix de Cornulier, on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 23) at Vincennes. Antoine Wiels was aboard the 7-year-old trotter, whom Thierry Duvaldestin trains.

The daughter of Ready Cash came from behind to win by 2-1/2 lengths, followed by Granvillaise Bleue, ridden by Camille Levesque; and Etoile de Bruyere, ridden by Adrien Lamy.

The purse for the winner was 315,000 euro ($357.000 U.S.).

This was win number 15 for Flamme du Goutier, who with today’s win became a new French millionaire, as she now has earnings of 1,059,740 euro ($1.16 million U.S.).

Riders Adrien Lamy and Yoann Lebourgeois were assessed hefty for causing false starts: they were both fined 3,150 euro ($3,600 U.S.) and banned from racing for eight days. Lamy was also handed a fine of 150 euro and banned four more days for the way he used his whip down the stretch.
