Freehold, NJ — With sports betting up and running at The Meadowlands and Monmouth Park, it appears that Freehold Raceway is ready to join the action.

According to Christopher McErlean, vice president at Penn National, which co-owns the track, “We are in negotiations with vendors for both retail and online, and we hope to have a decision by the end of the month.”

Freehold plans to follow the Meadowlands and Monmouth Park sports betting set up by having one vendor handle both in-house and online operations.

The goal is to have a vendor by Dec. 31 but that does not mean that everything will be up and running by NFL playoff weekend. Freehold is watching how things have been playing out in New Jersey and is approaching sports betting for the long game.
