Gertrude impressively made her lifetime debut a winning one in the $48,867 first division. Andy Miller wasted no time moving the Devious Man-Ophelia filly to the early lead, and the 3-5 favorite went coast to coast in 1:57.4, using a :57.4 final half to hold off the formidable Seven On The Rocks (John Stark Jr.) by 1-1/4 lengths. Bomb Hugger improved to two-for-two in her short career with a coast-to-coast 1:58.2 effort to secure her first stakes victory in the $47,966 second division. Anthony MacDonald drove Thestable Bomb Hugger’s daughter of Chapter Seven and Stylemaker in her first start for trainer Melissa Beckwith, and they had little difficulty going the distance on the engine. Gettinmystepsin (Andy Miller) threatened mildly from the pocket but settled for second, while Cranberry Lake (Wally Hennesy) earned third.

The $48,867 final division went to Joviality S, who wound up being the fastest filly of the day by way of a 1:56.4 score. Brian Sears drove the Marcus Melander-trained daughter of Chapter Seven and Pasithea Face S, who secured a decisive front-end victory as the 7-5 favorite in her lifetime debut for Courant Inc.

The next installment of New York Sire Stakes to be contested at Saratoga is July 14, when 3-year-old pacing colts and geldings visit the Spa City oval. Live racing returns Wednesday (July 7) with a 12 noon first post.
