Campbellville, ON — Driver Yannick Gingras and trainer Jonas Czernyson made the most of their venture to Mohawk on Monday evening (July 1) as the pair took both divisions of the Miss Versatility.

The Grand Circuit event featured North America’s top trotting mares.

Maven remained unbeaten this season in four starts after her victory in the first division.

Maven won the first division in a time of 1:52.3.

In a short field of six, Maven settled away in fourth as Daylon Miracle (Jody Jamieson) hustled to the front well before the opening panel in :27.3. One More Ginny (Mario Baillargeon) sat in the pocket with Beatgoeson Hanover (David Miller) sitting third.

Daylon Miracle continued to lead past the half in :56.4 with last year’s Breeders Crown champion, Maven, angling to the outside around the final turn. Jamieson and Daylon Miracle continued to lead under comfortable fractions as they marched past three-quarters in 1:24.3 with Maven still three lengths off the tempo-setter.

Down the stretch, Daylon Miracle was still in command, but Maven continued to close and was first to the wire in 1:52.3. Daylon Miracle was second, over Bax Of Life (Chris Christoforou).

“I didn’t think we were going to get there today,” trainer Jonas Czernyson said following the win. “Jody (Jamieson — driving Daylon Miracle) was on the front with an easy first half and I thought we were a little too far back. I always hate being undefeated because that means you’re getting closer to your loss, but she raced well today and we take it one race at a time.”

Owned by William Donovan, Maven, a daughter of Glidemaster, celebrated her 19th career win as her bankroll climbed to $1,093,719.

D’orsay parlayed a pocket trip into a 1:54 triumph in the second split.

In the final division, D’orsay enjoyed a perfect, two-hole trip en route to a 1:54 score.

Gingras guided the daughter of Yankee Glide into the pocket as Intense America (Sylvain Filion) was sent to command to lead through panels of :27.2, :57 and 1:25.4.

Down the stretch, Gingras pulled on the right line and angled Dorsay out of the pocket and the five-time winner motored by to win by one length. Real Babe (Jody Jamieson) finished second with Pembroke Heat Wave (Doug McNair) finishing third.

“Yannick drove her very well tonight, got away second and that was perfect,” Czernyson said following the win. “She loves to race barefoot and today we decided to give it a try and it paid off. She’s coming along very well and coming into herself and hopefully we can have a good year.”

With the victory, D’orsay increased her bankroll to $180,985 for owner Consus Racing Stable Inc.
