Gold Digger King takes inaugural Open at Scioto, Pick-8 carryover to Tuesday

Columbus, OH – Gold Digger King and Tyler Smith took the inaugural horses and geldings open pace Saturday (May 14) at Eldorado Scioto Downs. The race went in 1:51 despite a downpour commencing at the five-eighths.

Gold Digger King lead gate-to-wire for trainer Scott Mogan, posting a :27.1 last quarter to win by half a length over Sectionline Bigry (Brett Miller). The 6-year-old son of Pet Rock now has two wins in four starts for 2022. Friday’s win put him over a half-million in lifetime earnings benchmark and now has $508,677 in earnings.

For the third night, Scioto Downs and the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association guaranteed the Pick 8 for $25,000. After being hit on opening night with five tickets taking home $4,250 each, Friday and Saturday’s Pick-8s went uncovered, paying a $310 and $185 consolation payouts. There will be a $3,470 carryover for Tuesday’s card.

The Pick-8 starts in race two each race night. The $1.00 minimum wager has a 15% takeout. It is not a jackpot wager and if not hit, will continue to have a 50% carryover net pool into the following day with a 50% consolation payout to the best ticket.
