Googoo Gaagaa-sired Hail Mary wins Swedish Trotting Derby

Googoo Gaagaa has proved to be extremely popular in Sweden, where he now stands at stud, and why is obvious.

Sunday afternoon (Sept. 6) at Jägersro his son, the 4-year-old Hail Mary, posted an easy victory in the Swedish Trotting Derby and thus completed a unique treble for Googoo Gaagaa.

Googoo Gaagaa has now sired three winners of the biggest classic trotting races for the crop of 2016.

In 2018 his son Bythebook won the Svensk Uppfödningslopp, in 2019 another son, Power, won the Svenskt Travkriterium and now Hail Mary won the Svenskt Trav Derby.

Googoo Gaagaa’s Swedish crop from 2016 is 24 foals of which three have been millionaires in Swedish Krona.

Hail Mary with trainer/driver Robert Bergh was one of four Googoo Gaagaa sired trotters in the Derby. Hail Mary was in command the whole trip and won easily by three lengths in 1:57.1f (mile rate-the distance was 1-5/8th miles). Second was Don Fanucci Zet with Ôrjan Kihlström. Don Fanucci Zet is sired by Hard Livin and out of a pacing mare, Kissed By The West (by Western Terror).

So the first two finishers in the Swedish Derby have pacing blood in their breeding.

The purse for the winner in the Derby was 4 million SEK — or $460,000.

The mare division, Derbystoet, was won by the favorite, Diana Zet with Ôrjan Kihlström. She is just like Don Fanucci Zet, sired by Hard Livin and trained by Daniel Redén.

Daniel Redén had four horses entered in Derbystoet, and they finished first, second, third, and fifth.
