Greenshoe qualifying Wednesday at Pocono

Wilkes-Barre, PA – Greenshoe, who has returned in 2019 with two sensational victories and is the current Hambletonian favorite, will be in a qualifier Wednesday (June 12) morning at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, perhaps preparing for the Earl Beal Trot eliminations at the mountain oval on June 22.

A sophomore son of Father Patrick trained by Marcus Melander for Courant Inc., Hans Backe, Lars Granqvist, and Morten Langli, Greenshoe showed promise as a two-year-old when he won two of four starts, but he has been devastating in both his 2019 triumphs, first a 1:51.2 win in a New Jersey Sire Stakes elimination at The Meadowlands and then a 1:50.2 shocker in the NJSS two weeks later. Brian Sears will be on hand at Pocono to guide Greenshoe from post three.

Another top three-year-old, the Somebeachsomewhere pacing colt Southwind Ozzi, will also be in a Wednesday qualifier. The Bill Mac Kenzie trainee was only one for seven as a two-year-old and thus was not paid in to Pocono’s signature sophomore pacing event, the Hempt, but this season he has shown the form that puts him near the top of his sophomore class, with his 1:48.4 victory at Philly on May 26 the fastest race win of the year in his group. Sears also has the drive behind Southwind Ozzi as they start from post five.

In addition to these stars of today, there will be plenty of stars of tomorrow at Pocono Wednesday, competing in seventeen two-year-old qualifiers. First of the twenty-one early-session races tomorrow is 9 a.m. – and Greenshoe is in the first race.
