GSY Amateur Club donates to harness racing community

Editor’s Note: The following is an open letter from Dave Yarock to members of the GSY Amateur Club.

Dear Fellow Club Members:

As you know, the harness racing community has been hit hard by the current pandemic, not only in terms of loss of life but in terms of loss of income.

Ordinarily, our club uses funds raised by membership dues, driver commissions, and from individual donors to support the Edward Weiner & Edward Yarock Scholarship Fund, which grants educational scholarships to the children of professional horsemen and horsewomen and to others pursuing careers in equine fields.  However, this year the GSY Club will be using its funds to assist horsemen and horsewomen who are in need of assistance to get them (and their horses) through this time of uncertainty.

If you would like to assist us in this endeavor, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to “EWEY Scholarship Fund,” which will be added to funds we intend to distribute to those in need.  Such contributions can be mailed to Dave Yarock, 70 Sherwood Rd., Tenafly, NJ 07670.

You can also assist us by letting us know if you or someone you know who is involved with our club as an owner, trainer, driver, or caretaker is in need of assistance due to the pandemic.  Please email requests for assistance, along with a brief explanation of the circumstances, to Dave at daveyarock@gmail.com.

Our first donation will be to the GoFundMe campaign that has been established to assist the family of Vincent Fusco, Jr., who died at the age of 53, leaving a wife and two children behind.  Vinny was always supportive of the GSY Series, and his presence will be sorely missed.  If you would also like to donate to Vinny’s family, information can be found at:  https://www.gofundme.com/f/father-hospitalized-w-coronavirus?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link-tip&utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet

Thank you for your continued support of the GSY Club and for your consideration of this year’s campaign. We look forward to seeing you at the races soon.  Please stay safe.

Sincerely,

Dave Yarock, on behalf of the GSY Club
