GSY/MLK Remembrance Race at Meadowlands finds Silva victorious

East Rutherford, NJ — A field of 10 horses went to post on Friday (Jan. 14) at The Meadowlands in a special GSY race dedicated to the late Martin Luther King Jr.

As the field entered the first turn, Elysium Seelster (Ray Burton Jr.) left hard for the lead and was able to hold onto it until the field entered the stretch. The good first quarter of :28 may have taken some toll on the longtime leader, who ended up finishing fourth.

The post time favorite Cecil Casanova (Mark Silva) pulled at the half-mile marker and slowly grinded his way towards the top. He was able to take the lead midway down the lane to win by 1-3/4 lengths. Kingofthejungle (Jim King Solomon) was able to skim the pylons for a second place finish and Master Conrad (Bruno Chiodo) came from way back to round out the trifecta. The mile was timed in 1:56.2.

The winner is a 6-year-old gelding, owned by All Star Racing Inc. and trained by Silva.

The GSY amateurs will be back in action next Friday night at The Meadowlands. The first post is scheduled for 6:20 p.m.
